mama wants a new kitchen.

so, for the past week i have been all alone in my apartment. there was a break in between semesters and most everyone left to go home and yet here i have stayed. as you can guess, i found that boredom came upon me rather quickly and have had to busy myself with different tasks and such. one such task came as i was watching HGTV's show "kitchen cousins." as you may guess, this is a show about two cousins who go into peoples homes and redo their kitchens for them (not for free of course, that would be too exciting) but as i watched the wheels in my little mind started turning. my mom has wanted to remodel her kitchen for ... ever. but it is a funny shape and size, and it costs money, and she gets overwhelmed with all the decisions, so nothing has ever happened with the kitchen. as i was trying to think of something to do with it i felt as though this kitchen would be the death of me. i did NOT like the layout, so, i went ahead and rearranged our entire house. this is definitely a LOT more work than my mom would ever want to put in, but, this is what i think should be done. i didn't show the whole house because that would have been a lot more work. here is the screen shot of my mock up of the before. this is what our kitchen and surrounding area currently look like. the door on the left is really just an opening to a hall to the two kids rooms, and the door on the right is the opening to the hall that leads to my parents room. the whole top "wall" is really only a wall where the kitchen space is, the space on either side is open, to the froyer on the right and the living room on the left. i had to be creative with the cabinets on the oven fridge stove side because they wouldn't all fit. that's right, that shows how our kitchen is far too small.
these are the 2d and 3d mock ups of the new kitchen space i have created. you would have to add a wall where the former dining room went into the living room. and then rearrange the sofas, downsize, i would try and put some chairs in with the one sofa too. be open minded about the cabinets and such, there were limited choices on my design planner so i just had to wing it. so flooring, cabinets, and appliances are all just to show space.

it isn't shown here but i would put the sink in the island, like this:
and if she wanted a dishwasher (good for resale value even if you don't like them) i'd also put it in the island with the sink like this:
i think it's a pretty snazzy plan. it would be fun. a lot of work and money i am sure, but it would be awesome!!!! anyway, perhaps i will come up with some more ideas in the future and let you know. enjoy!

scripture of the day:
Alma 12:25 Now, if it had not been for the plan of redemption, which was laid from the foundation of the world, there could have been no resurrection of the dead; but there was a plan of redemption laid, which shall bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, of which has been spoken.

today i am thankful for:
* movies. they make life a bit more entertaining at times. (warhorse made me cry like a baby)
* a house with a kitchen and all other comfy appliances that make my life easier.
* cool computer programs that allow me to design rooms on my computer.
* the simple pleasures in life.
* locks, they make me feel safe even when i am alone.

what a cool mockup you made. They sure have cool programs out there. The plan looks good to me. Is there anyway to bump out that wall near the table to make more room?

the wall near the table is the closet to one of the kids rooms. i mean you could bump it out and take over the closet, but i dont think that would be smart. who knows. the proportions are all kind of, my best guess. i didn't have exact room sizes, so it may leave more table space, once i make it home and can measure everything i'll probably try mocking it up again and see how everything fits! <3.

This layout has potential. I like how the stove and the sink would basically be in the same place they are now so we could use existing wiring and plumbing. Now that I am the only one in my kitchen, I am beginning to think that a little kitchen isn't that bad. I can reach everything from one spot. However I would like more counter space so this would be good. Perhaps we could just get rid of the TV/couch. Do you think your dad would go for that? I can't wait for you to come home and get it started :). Are you going to provide the funds along with the blueprint?

i'm glad you noticed what i was doing trying to leave the stove and sink where they are. i was thinking the same thing about the wiring and plumbing. i see what you are saying about not needing a huge kitchen, however, i think that with the big open floor layout it would be nice for when you had all your family over. your children, grandkids, all in the big open space. i just think it would be fun. and i was going for a lot of counter space because i know you've talked a lot about that. i'm not sure papa would ever allow you to get rid of the t.v. and couch. if i was rich i would provide the funds, but turns out i am not. therefore you'll have to find someone else to fund the project. i have been trying to figure out how much of this we could do ourselves. i have been feeling very handy while watching HGTV shows, but somehow i think it may not be as easy it is in my mind. BUT i am up for the challenge! haha, over my 7 week break?!? you better start cleaning that house out like your life depends on it!!! love ya! <3.
