the games are a foot, sort of.

well, no one ever said the life of a coach was easy. today was the first day of tryouts for the mens competitive basketball teams. which means today was also the first day of drafting. we got to draft 5 players for our varsity team. we got the number 3 pick for the first round and got our first pick for that. he was really good at tryouts, a great point guard. our second pick got taken by someone else first round. then second round we were number 7 pick, we ended up getting another really good player, a post. (you know they are good players when you pick them and other coaches moan because they got picked). however, this player, unknown to us, was one another coach (or actually his assistant coaches) really wanted. they knew him. he had been on their team before. so, while we finished the rest of drafting they texted him and told him to change his practice time availability. he did. so they showed the coordinator a text from him saying he could only practice at their time, so after 5 rounds of drafting we lost our second pick draft. that was a pain. so now we only have 4 players (when we should have 5). it was a hard day. but i am excited to get back at it again tomorrow. we got guaranteed first pick tomorrow, plus then normal rotation in the rest of the draft process as well. so we'll get 6 picks tomorrow instead of just 5. not to mention, the coordinator ended up giving our second pick to the one other coach practicing at the same time as the two conniving assistant coaches. so we were glad they didn't get our pick after going behind our back. it was just a crazy day. we ended up spending almost as much time drafting as we did at the tryouts. it is going to be a long 2 days thursday and friday. i am excited though. it was fun getting to walk around checking out players and talking to them. layton, our head coach, picked lauren and my favorite guy for our third pick. that made us feel good. i have on guy that i still really like, he would work for a post, but i have to convince him he wants to practice at 6am. haha. it is going to be hard to sell that one, but i feel really good about him. he was awesome, was quick, bigger than most the other guys, and played well with others. he impressed me. i don't know if that is saying much, i still feel like i don't know very much, so i don't push my picks as much, but i am excited to get started with the practices and games!!

scripture of the day:
my new mantra that i have adopted for the rest of the basketball season, especially during drafting:
Article of Faith 13: We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul - We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured all things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

today i am thankful for:
* a coach who cares about what i think.
* new experiences.
* attending a school with a variety of opportunities for growth and learning.
* fun roommates.
* people with manners.

Well,Janaya, you said that the games were "a foot". At least you have a few more than ONE foot on your team. I'd stick with the guy that "plays well with others". After all - - - All you need to know in life you can learn in Kindergarten. L0L Very appropriate choice of daily quote for your blog for the next moments in time! Don't we wish everyone felt that way? Glad you're enjoying the DRAFT(even though it might be alot of cold air at times)!
